Who: The 49-year-old pastor of First Baptist Church of Rio Linda, California, who donated $230 to California’s anti-gay Proposition 8 in 2008 — to, you know, uphold the “sanctity” of “traditional” marriage — that is, to strip loving, monogamous, adult gay and lesbian couples (who were not running around molesting children, no matter how many times “men of God” like Daniels try to convince a misinformed and/or gullible public that “gay” = “pedophile”) of their already-recognized constitutional right to join together in legal matrimony — while he was upholding the the “sanctity” of his “traditional” marriage (and presumably protecting children from those awful, horrible gays) by sexually molesting little girls in his home.
What we’ve been waiting more than a year to hear: After his lawyer’s motion for a new trial was denied, Daniels “was sentenced to 158 years to life in prison today for molesting five little girls in a respite and child-care operation his family ran out of his Citrus Heights home. … The five victims in the case were between the ages of 5 and 13 when Daniels touched them inappropriately while they were in his family’s care…” — SacBee, March 2, 2012 (Make sure to hit the link to this SacBee article to see the photo of Daniels during sentencing; even the reporter was compelled to mention Daniels’s bizarre “facial grimaces.”)
Our heroine of 2012: In a demonstration of courage few adults could manage… “One of Daniels’ victims, who is now 12, began to read her victim’s impact statement in the courtroom. She said the molestation ‘changed me forever.’ When the girl began to cry, her mother finished the statement where the young victim said she is ‘terrified of the dark’ and has a recurring vision of a ‘blurred face with a creepy smile’ where Daniels’ ‘points at me as if to say, “I’m coming for you.”‘” [ibid.]
Of course, Daniels plans to appeal his conviction. But for today, we are pleased. Very pleased.
